Julie Nichols launched Handmade Market in 2008 with 35 stalls and a mandate that everything be Australian-made. Sixteen years later it fills two halls at Exhibition Park, drawing 20,000-plus visitors across 260 stalls of homewares, fashion, jewellery and food vans. The scale is improbable for what began as a gap in the Canberra market calendar — and it still runs like someone cares.
