Blackbird Old Wares
A family-run antiques dealer that opened in Armidale in 2016 and, in early 2026, moved into a large industrial shed on Mann Street, its third home in a decade. Owner Rob Lawry trades in antique and vintage furniture, Persian rugs, chandeliers and lighting, outdoor pieces and decorative objects with some history behind them. The warehouse format was a deliberate choice: the extra space and truck access let the business carry considerably more stock while keeping the browse-and-discover character regulars value. Stock turns over as pieces are sourced and sold, so the mix changes visit to visit. Among the town's several second-hand and antique traders, it is the destination for larger furniture and statement decorative items.

More than 50,000 second-hand books fill this long-standing shop in the Beardy Street mall, on Anaiwan land in the centre of Armidale, alongside a smaller range of new titles, vinyl records and DVDs. A cafe and wine bar occupy part of the premises, so browsing can stretch into coffee, cake or a glass of something, and the shop trades on the last Sunday of each month during the markets in the mall. It functions as much as a meeting place and events space as a retailer, with a regular programme of happenings. For collectors and general readers alike, it is the district's principal source of used and antiquarian books, and one of the larger second-hand bookshops in regional New South Wales.
